The most famous Beijing Duck restaurant has opened a beautiful branch in Chongqing’s Hong Ya Dong. Besides having the chance to taste authentic slow roasted Beijing duck, this restaurant has a couple of advantages over the original Beijing counterparts. First, the view overlooking the river. Book a private room on the river side in advance to enjoy your meal under the warm glow of the setting sun. Second, and perhaps more important than the atmosphere alone, is that the Chongqing location, although popular, is still not as insanely overrun as the original Beijing locations. As a result the food is prepared more carefully, and the delectable taste serves as a witness to that attentiveness.
Bus Tip: 小什字 Walk about 50 meters towards the river, if you see Starbuck’s you are there, just look for the escalators down
Light Rail Tip: 临江门 (Linjiangmen) Exit D (the Liberation Monument exit). From here to Hong Ya Dong should take between 5-10 minutes. From the exit walk straight ahead (away from Marriot). Follow the road as it curves right (then you’ll be facing Metropolitan). Take an immediate left (try to stay on the right side of the road)—must cross the street. Continue walking straight along the sidewalk until you get to the intersection of Jiang Jia Xiang and Lin Jiang Zhi Lu (corner of Wang Fu Jing). Cross Lin Jiang Zhi Lu and continue straight, cross again at Cang Bai Lu and take a right. When you see Starbuck’s on your left you’re there.
