This wholesale market is likely the main supplier for the restaurants all around the city (from hole-in-the-wall to five star). Here you can buy beautifully painted and glazed porcelain dinnerware, crystal stemware, commercial-sized cooking utensils, non-smoking signs, and decorative vases. Don’t be thrown off by the first floor, which sells bathroom fixtures and toilets, just go on up to the second floor.

Ma Jia Yan Jian Cai Qu 马家岩建材区
• Open – 9am-7pm
Located in the south part of Shapingba district, this area has at least five different multi-level home improvement stores clustered together. Come here to look for ceiling light fixtures, wood paneling, screen doors, and many other such home improvement things sold at wholesale prices (you can bargain at most of the shops too).

Bai An Ju 百安居
The biggest home improvement chain in Europe is also here in Chongqing. Get everything you need for DIY around the house and garden in an environment that feels familiar. You may, however, be able to find the same things cheaper at the home improvement districts around town. There are three stores in Chongqing (a fourth is under development), one in Nanping and two in Jiangbei.
