Head down to any of the sprawling shopping districts in the evening and around 10 o’clock you can witness the mass exodus of people away from the squares towards home for the night. Restaurants roll down their aluminum shutters, the twinkling lights of skyscrapers are quickly extinguished, and the city feels strangely abandoned compared to the jostling activity of moments before. But like any big city, even as most of the city goes to sleep, there are spots that are just coming to life. Most of the locals prefer the intimate setting of KTV (Karaoke) with a close group of friends. But for those who prefer the strobing lights and pulsing rhythms of a dance floor, the night is young and the clubs are beckoning. Even if clubbing is usually not your thing, consider coming out one night for a glimpse of the action, because everyone knows watching locals dance can make for an interesting cultural experience.
New bars and clubs are constantly opening and old ones often suddenly shutting their doors, so here I will just touch on some of the veterans on the scene. These are tried and true, and should not be going anywhere anytime soon.

Hello,
My wife and I are young Americans living in Guangzhou. We’ve been living in China for about 3 years, teaching and learning Mandarin. We’ve traveled to Chongqing, loved it and want to open a bar/cafe in the city later this year.
We are looking for partners, Chinese or Foreign, to help us with this project. Our idea is to open a funky American style bar, good healthy Authentic western food. We have endless ideas, and have been saving for quite a while.
If you are interested, please contact me. Also, if you are currently living in Chongqing, any advice or help would be greatly appreciated (what is the current state of foreign bars, foreign food in the city, the numbers of expats living in the city, etc).
Thank you,

The Harp Irish Pub opened in early April 2010, and is located on the 9th floor of Hongya Dong in downtown Chongqing.
It is becoming a very popular venue for the Xpat community.
