Pull aside any of the local women and ask them what their favorite past time is and chances are you will get the same universal answer: Shopping. Lucky for them Chongqing is a shopaholic’s dream come true, with sprawling shopping plazas in virtually every district, the multilevel department stores, and the winding networks of underground malls. Top it off with the fact that in all of Western China the only other city that can compete for trend-setting variety is likely Chengdu, and even their shopping district seems tiny compared to Chongqing’s Three Gorges Plaza or “Times Square” of Jiefangbei. Shopping in Chongqing is also considerably easier on the pocketbook when compared to international Shanghai and Hong Kong.
But, unless you are as petite as most of the locals, shopping for clothes is probably not high on your priority list. This section is written with that in mind. Here you can find out where to get real cheese, where to get paint for repainting those sterile white walls in your apartment, where to get the best quality bootlegged DVDs, and where to find the clothes that is made for exporting (because everyone knows its all ‘Made in China’).
