Lodging
There are hundreds of hotels to choose from in Chongqing, ranging from bottom of the barrel two star hotels to five star accommodations for the fabulously wealthy. For those on a tight budget, however, the options are fairly limited (for now). Online listings are scarce, so hostels can be a real challenge to find, but smaller hotels have been known to allow bargaining at the front desk, so you can always give that a try upon arrival. Continue to Chongqing hotels and hostels listings for summaries of the more popular budget and 5-star hotels. Also check out the Chongqing listings over at Sinohotelreservation where they can help you find discounted rates and book with English service.
As with everything else in this town the prices are subject to change, so call in advance to check current rates.

This is very short notice but I have just discovered that I have 2 weeks off and I would like to go to Chongqing to do an intensive Mandarin course. I can already speak a bit and know about 700 characters.
So it would be really helpful if someone reading this could tell me the name of a school that teacher mandarin that could offer 5 hours of one-on-one classes a day and not too expensive. from 6th April until 19th April
I would also love to do a homestay with a family who does not speak english. Does anyone know if this is possible in Chongqing?
Many thanks!!
Jack
That really is short notice! I think you should start by trying to get in touch with someone at the Sichuan International Studies University. (SISU) it’s located in Shapingba. We have a couple of Peace Corps volunteers at that school who might be good leads. Look for the website and contact their foreign teachers department as that is the department where you’ll get the quickest access to Chinese staff who can facilitate the kind of thing you’re looking for. Good luck!
